Teaching of the Holocaust and of Genocides of the 20th century in order to prevent extremism, genocide and mass violence

There have been numerous wars and combats in the past, but among all these, WORLD WAR II had harsh implications like mass destruction on the whole world for that matter. There have been innumerable accounts of deadliest events taking place during the World War II - one of them being the Holocaust which led to a mass violence with the deliberate killing of six million Jewish by the Nazi Germany with the only intention of exterminating them. On reading about this I felt that this was an issue that required attention and was needed to be transformed. Since many decades we have been trying to follow the political slogan “NEVER AGAIN” and have been making an effort to never let such kind of maltreatment happen again, but even today the question: “How can genocide be put of?” has not got a solution yet. I strongly feel that education can play a practical role in societies still struggling with the legacies of mass violence and extremism. Educating people about the history of holocaust and g...

Laugh and the world will laugh with you, snore and you sleep alone :-)

It was a warm and comfortable night, I was like a snug as a bug in a rug in my cozy bed when I unknowingly dozed off and I was in a fairyland with fairies and dwarfs dancing around me and singing melodious songs. I was sitting under the shade of a tree when a fairy came very close to my ear and said (snore... … snore.....) , that’s where my pleasant dream broke. That was my father, who was fast asleep snoring like an untamed lion who was ready to attack me any time. I am sure you can relate to the sonorous, grumbling and grating sound of Snoring. You must have at least one person in your family who is a snorer .  A Research reports that one out of every four adults snore regularly and nearly half of us snore occasionally. Do you think snoring is harmless? Well, let me tell you, it is something that can have serious health issues like - risk of stroke, Heart diseases, memory difficulty, aggravating diabetes, headache etc. Besides, it is not good for your family members as it keep...

An Eminent Indian Scientist and Thinker - Venkatesh Bapuji Ketkar

An Eminent Indian Scientist and Thinker - Venkatesh Bapuji Ketkar We, Indians often forget the name of our very own astronomer, who predicted the existence of Brahma: Pluto and dedicated his life to do the research on almanac system of timekeeping - Shri. Venkatesh Bapuji Ketkar. The family of Venkatesh Bapuji Ketkar was originally from a small village called "Ketaki Bivali", near Chiplun, situated in the Konkan belt of Maharashtra. This was the period when Sambhaji Maharaj was assassinated and the Mughals had established their stronghold in Maharashtra. Due to the fights and the Bhalerāī raids, Venkatesh Ketkar's ancestors settled in Paithan which was known back then as the hub of education, moneylending and textile business. The ancestral business of the Ketkar family was of the zari and textiles work.  On January 15th, 1815, Bapu Shashtri Ketkar (father of Venkatesh Bapuji Ketkar) was born with great intelligence and at a very early age, he had mastered the art o...

What really matters is invisible to the eyes!

‘ It is easy to look at people and make quick judgments about them, but what the world sees of the person is only one tiny faucet of the iceberg. There is a story behind every person. There is a reason why they are the way they are. Think about that before you judge someone.’ Our life has a meaning only if we keep having an interaction with people. Right. We meet a multitude of people in our lives with whom we chat, talk, discuss various matters, etc. But now let us pay attention to the details. Can you tell me the first thing we all do when we see new people? Do we instantly go to talk to them or do we straightaway shake hands with them? Let me tell you; we do nothing of this sort. The foremost thing we do after meeting someone new is that consciously or unconsciously we make a judgement. A judgement like: Wow, he has so much wealth, He is so rich. She looks so sweet. They are so weird. Oh! she is so ignorant. We make a quick judgement that may not be quite true, a judgement that ...

A homage to my Guru

Mosaic is a painting or picture obtained by arranging small pieces of stone, glass, paper and other materials to make a variety of patterns. It is a creative type of art technique where we can mix and make a blend of colors by adding the shades, hue, tint, and tone of the main color. It is a decorative piece and is used as a creative way to elaborate the work of art and pattern. This type of art form was very famous in the Ancient Roman period and was used to decorate floors and walls. In modern days, it is used to make patterns, paintings and tiles to decorate houses. I have tried to paint the first Guru of Sikh religion, the messenger who had a great belief in God and preached everyone about Ek - God is one, the power of SACH (truth) and is known for fighting demons with his peace of mind and love for all. I have painted GURU NANAK DEV JI through the technique of mosaic. This painting is a tribute to him on his 550th Prakash Purab.

Unity in Diversity: Positioning India as a Leader in Emerging Global Scenario

In India we meet different people. Some are Rajputs, some are Sikh, some are Hindus, some are Muslims, some eat Non - vegetarian, whereas some avoid eating that. Some celebrate Christmas while some others celebrate Diwali, Eid, Holi, Gurupurab. We all are so different from each other, but the one thing that is common among us all is  ‘oneness’ . There is  UNITY EVEN WITH SUCH A VARIETY.  As Rabindranath Tagore very eloquently said:  If  God had so wished, he would have made all the Indians speak one language, follow one tradition and religion, but God did not want it this way. He felt that the identity of India would only be in having a diversity.  Criticism and inequalities are not the ideologies we follow anymore. Over the years, we have evolved as a leader with a strong bond of humanity among us.  India is such a diversified civilization with over 1650 spoken languages, varied dressing styles and with millions of people coming from various backgroun...

Only Vegans....Why?

All people should not become Vegetarian You all would be thinking, this is such a minor, unimportant topic. Even if everyone became Vegetarian, how will this change, even make a difference or even matter. This might look like a small topic that does not seek for any debating, but if we go deeper to the root cause and look deep into this matter then it can have a huge impact on our country.   India is a diverse country with various eating habits and beliefs. Some people residing in India are Non-vegetarians, some are Vegetarians and some are Eggetarians. Some people belonging to specific religion may not find eating chicken as a great idea. Some might prefer eating non vegetarian food and some might only prefer dairy products. So, we cannot limit their eating habits, what they should eat and what they shouldn’t. They are the ones on whom this should be left to.   We should have a variety in everything. This is what India is, after all: Diversified.  Also, ...
