A place as beautiful as it sounds!
Sikkim, A place as beautiful as it sounds! Nestling in the Himalayan mountains, it is known for its magnificent beauty, mountainous terrain and rich diversified culture. It is a charming state of the Indian Union, which is certain to bewitch anyone. We can witness a continuously changing panorama and unique foliage with lofty trees, rugged mountains, grassy plains, shades of blue, crimson and brown dotted with white, animal species, dolphins frolicing in rivulets and reptiles awaiting in the beautiful lakes. All these are the forces of nature, something so subtle to look at. Something so appealing to the eyes. Sikkim is at all times bustling but at the same time it is calm. Known for its historical heritages, wide range of rituals and simplicity - Sikkim has it all! From the indescribable beauty of the silk route, the popular food in Gangtok, the sacred lake - Gurudongmar Lake, the attractive dances to the 3rd highest mountain in the world, Kanchenjunga. Communities, cultures, religions and customs of many shades have mixed freely in Sikkim to form a homogeneous combination. Sikkim’s indigenous population includes the Lepchas, Limbus and other tribes. One of the most welcoming feature about Sikkim is the presence of a variety of color in the state. Every street and road is filled with prayer flags of various colors. The 5 colors of prayer flags represent the 5 basic elements: earth (yellow); water (green); fire (red); air (white); and space (blue). It is said that if we balance all these elements externally, then it would bring harmony and peace to the environment and by balancing them internally it would bring health and purity to the body and the mind. Sikkimese had understood this early, creating a calm and content lifestyle for themselves making it easy for the Lepchas; the clan of Nagas, the tribal groups, the Bhutias, the descendents of Buddhists, the Nepalese and the descendents of the Hindus to mingle in and live together harmoniously. The people of Sikkim are warm and friendly with a natural gaiety displaying the cultural, social and linguistic commonness. In Sikkim, Hindu Temples coexist with Buddhist Monasteries, Churches, Mosques and Gurudwaras.
The people of Sikkim love to celebrate. Whether it is the Tibetan New Year, the harvest festival or Yenya, the Sikkimese do it all with gay abandon and pomp and show. The attractive folk dances, customs and traditions of different tribes and castes performed with superfluous energy and zeal add to the celebrations. The festivals in Sikkim are the most enthusiastically celebrated with huge fairs and melas held in many places along the river banks and confluence of rivers.
Embedded in the north eastern part of India, the state is also full of crafts and handworks. From the ravishing wooden masks to the pulchritudinous Thangka paintings, everything found here is magnificent and easy on the eye.
They beautifully express the feelings, culture and tradition of the people living there and exhibit the talents veiled in every nook and corner of the state.
Sikkim, indeed, has it all!
This state's appeal is ever alluring and I can’t resist its charm.
Can you?
