First be, what you preach
Once
there was a teacher who was discussing with her students about the side effects
of getting angry. She told them that anger was the worst emotion and everyone
should leave the company of this strong emotion. She told them different ways
by which they could control it.
One day, a student of her class had not completed his homework, so the teacher
got angry, and started scolding him. The day prior to this she was telling the
students not to get angry under any circumstance, but now she was the one
getting angry on them.
Isn't this a tragic irony?
I don't understand myself and go out to teach others. That's the kind of teacher
I am!
ARE YOU SUCH KIND OF A TEACHER?
ARE YOU SUCH KIND OF A TEACHER?
I
have a short story for you, to make you understand this well.
Once a woman came to a wise man with his son.
She said, “This boy eats a lot of sugar. I have tried all the ways to stop him
but he never listens to me. My words fall on deaf ears all the time. What
should I do? I am really disturbed.”
The
wise man told her to come back in a week. When she returned after a week, he
postponed it further and told her to come back after 2 weeks. After two weeks,
the wise guy told the boy, “I forbid you from eating more sugar than that I
have permitted”.
The women asked the wise guy, why he had taken so much unnecessary time and
delay before giving such a simple order. The wise man told her, that he had to
see whether he himself could cut down on the use of sugar, before ordering
someone else to do it.
Famous
Indian Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar urges everybody to wake up early in
the morning, find time for oneself and regularly exercise to remain fit.
Before advising this to others, he first implemented all this on himself and
that is why his recommendation is taken seriously by youngsters. He imbibed
these values in himself and then went on to enlighten and motivate people
around him. Many youngsters draw motivation from him today.
The day people find out that we do not practice what we preach, they would forget all the lessons we taught them.
DO YOU WANT THAT TO HAPPEN?
